Rays Open Homestand With Loss To Yankees

The New York Yankees (50-40) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (52-36) 5-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The Rays have now lost three games in a row after having previously won nine straight.

Former Rays infielder Jose Caballero hit two home runs - a three run blast in the fifth and a solo shot in the eighth - to give the Yankees all the offense they would need. Cam Schlittler (9-5, 2.01) kept the Rays offense off-balance all night, allowing one earned run on four hits in eight innings of work in which he struck out eight and walked none.

The Rays will look to bounce back when they meet the Yankees in the second game of the four-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
