Rays Sweep Twins

The Tampa Bay Rays (16-11) defeated the Minnesota Twins (12-16) 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gave the Rays a sweep in the three-game series, and gave the Rays their fourth straight win.

The Rays got all the offense they would need in the third inning. Jonathan Aranda hit a two-run single in the third that gave the Rays a 2-0 lead, before Yandy Diaz's two-run homer doubled it at 4-0. That would be the score until the seventh inning, when Brooks Lee hit a two-run homer to cut the Rays lead to 4-2, but that would be as close as the Twins would get.

Jesse Scholtens (2-1, 3.20) got the win following an opener - he allowed two earned runs on three hits in four innings of work while striking out one and walking three. Bryan Baker earned his sixth save of the season after working a perfect ninth inning.

The Rays now head to Cleveland for a three-game series against the Guardians beginning on Monday night. Steven Matz (3-1, 4.81) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Parker Messick (3-0, 1.76) for Cleveland. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 6:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:00 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
