Democrats flipped two key state seats in Tuesday's special elections in Florida.

Emily Gregory flips the state legislative district that includes President Trump's Mar-a-Lago.

Gregory won the district 87 open House seat beating Republican Jon Maples.

She garnered 51% of the vote in her first run for office. After her win, she told MS Now she felt like she was having "an out-of-body experience," and she encourages anyone else who wants to make a difference to "get off the sidelines and run."

The seat had been held by Republican Mike Caruso, who was appointed Palm Beach County Clerk by Governor Ron DeSantis. President Trump voted by mail in Tuesday's election.

Meanwhile, Democrat Brian Nathan has declared victory in a close race over Republican opponent, former state Representative Josie Tomkow.

Nathan, a union organizer and Navy veteran who is also a first-time candidate, will replace Republican Jay Collins in Senate District 14. That seat was vacated when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Collins to serve as his lieutenant governor.

That race is so close, it could go to a recount.

A 408-vote advantage gives Nathan a 0.5% margin of victory. However, Florida state statute calls for a recount if the margin of victory is less than or equal to 0.5%.

Despite publicly condemning the voting method as fraudulent without proper checks and balances, Trump also used it to vote in 2020.
