Lightning Tie Franchise Record With 11th Straight Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning (29-13-3) defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins (21-14-10) 2-1 in the shootout on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. With the win, the Lightning have tied a franchise record with eleven straight wins. It is the longest winning streak in the NHL this season.

The Lightning were playing in the second game of a back-to-back, after having won their last two games in Philadelphia. They beat the Flyers 7-2 on Saturday night then again 5-1 on Monday night before heading to Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

The game was scoreless going into the third period before J.J. Moser got the Lightning on the board at the 14:13 mark of the final period. Evgeni Malkin scored for Pittsburgh at the 17:44 mark to tie the game, and the score would be 1-1 heading into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime this game went to the shootout. Gage Goncalves got a shootout goal in the first round, then Egor Chinakhov got a goal in the third round to tie the shootout 1-1. Nikita Kucherov scored the game-winning shootout goal moments later to lift the Lightning to a second point and tie the franchise record winning streak. Tampa Bay also won eleven straight games between January 29th and February 17th, 2020.

Andrei Vasilevskiy went 26-of-27 in net to get the win for Tampa Bay, while Arturs Silovs went 30-of-31 in net for Pittsburgh.

The Lightning are next in action when they travel to St. Louis to play the Blues on Friday night. Puck drop between the Lightning and Blues is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET on Friday night at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
