Merriam Webster & Oxford Dictionary have just revealed their 2022 "Word Of The Year". Both MW & OD selected amazing choices:

1) Merriam Webster's Word Of The Year = "Gaslighting"

2) Oxford Dictionary's Word Of The Year = "Goblin Mode"

"Gaslighting" has been called "a word of our time" . It's defined as: We define this use as: "psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one's emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator."

"Goblin mode" was chosen by the public from three different options that were voted on over two weeks. It defines the term as "a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations." Oxford said its word of the year is a reflection of the mood of the past year and also something that has a lasting cultural significance.
