For International Women's Day: The Women in Rock Playlist [LISTEN]

Rock music is male dominated, more now than ever.

Women make up 51% of the US population, but we're only 23% of artists on the Billboard charts - and when it comes to alternative artists, that goes down to 14%.

Only 12% of songwriters and fewer than 4% of producers are women.

If you want to nerd out over music stats, check the Annenberg report that covers 2012-2021.

A quick note on the history of International Women's Day:

On March 8, 1908, women workers in the needle trades marched through New York City's Lower East Side to protest child labor, sweatshop working conditions, and demand women's suffrage. Beginning in 1910, March 8 became annually observed as International Women's Day. (census.gov)
