Two South Florida police officers are suing A-list actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon over their "too-close-to-home" portrayal of them in the movie, “The Rip.”

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Sgts Jason Smith and Jonathan Santana filed a defamation lawsuit this month in Miami federal court against Affleck and Damon's film production company.

They claim the duo used "too many real-life details" in the fictionalized script for The Rip, which they claim caused harm to the officers’ personal and professional reputations

Court filing shows they are seeking damages, attorney fees and a public retraction and correction. The damage amount being sought was not disclosed.

The film in question, “The Rip” was inspired by a real 2016 case, where Miami Police found over $21 million linked to a suspected marijuana trafficker in a Miami Lakes home.

Attorneys representing, Artists Equity, the actors' production company, replied to the demand letter that: "The film does not purport to tell the true story of that incident or portray real people, which had been stated by a disclaimer in the film's credits."
