Kurt Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen, Washington will now be officially celebrating the Nirvana frontman every year.

Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson and the city council have decided to make February 20th an annual event known as "Kurt Cobain Day."  They add that the day could even spread into a "Kurt Cobain Week" as plans develop.

The official proclamation -- which will be read on February 12th -- states that Aberdeen residents should "justifiably take pride" in the community's role in the life of Cobain and the international recognition the city has gained from the connection to the grunge icon and his artistic achievements.

Last month the nearby town of Hoquiam announced plans to celebrate its own Nirvana Day this year on April 10th.

Cobain briefly lived in Hoquiam, and the honor is meant to coincide with the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the same day.
